Tel Aviv Tops Cities for Red Light Violation Tickets
45,239 tickets were issued in 2025 to drivers for disobeying a red light, an average of 124 tickets a day. This emerges from Israel Police data obtained by the Or Yerok association.
According to the data, 22,623 of the tickets were issued through A3 cameras, and 22,616 tickets were issued manually by police officers. Over the past five years, between 2021 and 2025, a total of 192,138 tickets were issued for disobeying a red light, 97,818 through cameras and 94,320 manually.
Running a red light is considered one of the most dangerous traffic violations. In 2025, 2,301 drivers were involved in road accidents after failing to obey a red light, accounting for 27% of all drivers who committed the offense and were involved in a traffic accident.
The data also show that 24,889 of the tickets in 2025 were issued on intercity roads, 55% of the total, and 20,350 tickets were issued on urban roads, 45%. Tel Aviv-Yafo leads the list of cities with 3,735 tickets issued in 2025 for disobeying a red light. It is followed by Jerusalem with 2,460 tickets, Holon with 1,538 tickets, Netanya with 1,285 tickets, and Beersheba with 926 tickets.
Running a red light can lead to a fine of 1,500 shekels and 10 penalty points. In more serious cases, when there are additional vehicles at the intersection or when road users are obstructed, the driver may receive a summons to court, a 30-day administrative disqualification, and a 30-day vehicle impoundment.
