Survivors of Israeli Singer Sasson Shaulov’s July Car Crash Speak Out on Trauma and Lack of Contact
Three young men involved in a serious car accident with Israeli singer Sasson Shaulov on July 3 in Tel Aviv have shared their first detailed accounts of the crash and its aftermath. The accident occurred at the intersection of Herzl Street and Derech Jaffa around 1:40 a.m. after the group had dinner on Rothschild Boulevard. The driver of a Hyundai Ioniq, 18-year-old Elia from Netanya, described stopping at a red light and starting to move when Shaulov’s car suddenly struck them from the right side. The impact caused the vehicle to spin and fill with smoke, leaving the passengers disoriented and injured.
Elia recalled that Shaulov approached them shortly after the collision, admitted to running the red light, apologized, and promised to cover all damages. However, Elia and the others say Shaulov has not contacted them personally since that night, only communicating through a representative and offering a financial settlement they rejected. The accident left lasting physical and psychological effects, including Elia’s fear of driving and persistent flashbacks triggered by the smell of burning.
Thomas, another passenger who absorbed the brunt of the impact on the front passenger side, was hospitalized in the trauma unit at Ichilov Hospital with a head injury and neck brace. He criticized the police for not administering a breathalyzer test to Shaulov at the scene, despite the late hour and severity of the crash. Police officials stated the responding officer acted professionally and saw no suspicion of alcohol use at the time. Shaulov’s driving license has been suspended pending further investigation, and he is expected to face court.
The third passenger, Daniel, described the shock and helplessness during the crash and confirmed Shaulov’s initial concern at the scene. The victims’ lawyers emphasized the severity of the collision and the trauma endured, demanding a thorough and impartial investigation without preferential treatment for Shaulov. The police confirmed an ongoing investigation and stated the vehicles were removed and the incident handled according to protocol. The victims expressed disappointment over the lack of personal follow-up from Shaulov, viewing the case as more than just property damage but a lasting emotional burden.
Shaulov’s representatives said he contacted the victims after the accident to check on their wellbeing and is working through proper channels to resolve the matter amicably. The victims maintain their version of events and reject the proposed out-of-insurance settlement. The case remains under police investigation with responsibility yet to be determined.
