Elron backs petitioners, calls for freezing Rabilo’s appointment
Retired Supreme Court Justice Yosef Elron, who ran against attorney Michael Rabilo for the State Comptroller post, has filed a preliminary response to petitions submitted to the High Court of Justice challenging the election process. The petitions were lodged after coalition lawmakers filmed themselves voting for Rabilo, who ultimately won the job.
In his filing, Elron joins the petitioners on the claim that the second-round vote was unlawful. He also asks the court to grant the remedies requested in the petitions, including an interim order freezing Rabilo’s entry into office until the legal challenge is decided.
Elron’s response states that he supports the petitioners’ arguments “insofar as they relate to the illegality of the second vote, held in the Knesset,” and adds that he joins the request for the relief detailed in the petitions, including the interim remedy suspending Rabilo’s assumption of the State Comptroller position.
