State Comptroller-elect Rabillo defends legality of his appointment in High Court filing

State Comptroller-elect Rabillo has filed a response to the High Court of Justice, arguing that his election was lawful. He is defending himself after questions were raised over whether his appointment complied with the law.

In his filing, Rabillo said Israeli law allows the selection of honest people who can act objectively and professionally, even if they previously had ties to those who appoint them or to those being audited. He said this is supported by safeguards in the Basic Law and the State Comptroller Law, which guarantee the comptroller’s independence.

Rabillo’s response is aimed at the petition before the High Court challenging his selection. The key issue in the case is whether prior connections disqualify a candidate for the post, or whether the statutory protections are enough to preserve independence once appointed.
