Retired Justice Alron Backs Petitions Challenging State Comptroller Appointment
Retired Supreme Court Justice Yosef Elron filed a response to the High Court of Justice, joining the petitions against the appointment of Michael Ravilo as state comptroller. In his filing, Elron said he supports the petitioners' main claim that the selection process was unlawful.
Elron argued briefly that the second vote held in the Knesset was illegal. He said he was joining the petitioners specifically on the issue of the vote's legality in the appointment process.
He also asked the court to grant the remedies sought in the petitions, including an interim order blocking Ravilo from taking office until the legal dispute is decided. The filing stated that Elron joins the petitioners' claims regarding the illegality of the second vote held in the Knesset.
The petitions challenge the legality of Ravilo's selection as state comptroller. At the center of the case is the claim that the second vote in the Knesset was improper because reports said Likud lawmakers were required to photograph the selection process.
