Apple Music to Label Songs Created Using Artificial Intelligence for Transparency
Apple Music is introducing a new transparency measure that will clearly identify songs, lyrics, album covers, and music videos created significantly with artificial intelligence (AI). This initiative, announced in a letter to music industry partners, will require creators to disclose AI usage, marking a shift from the previous optional tagging system to a mandatory one for AI-generated content. The new "Made With AI" label will appear across the Apple Music app, helping users distinguish between human-made and AI-produced music.
Oliver Schusser, Apple Music's Vice President, revealed that over one-third of songs uploaded monthly to the platform are entirely AI-generated. Despite this, AI music currently accounts for less than half a percent of actual listening time by users, indicating a preference for human-created music. Apple relies on creators' self-reporting to identify AI content, although it has internal detection systems.
The update is expected to roll out later this year, providing listeners with greater control over their music choices and the ability to explore AI-created tracks transparently. This move comes amid the rapid rise of AI tools in music production, aiming to bring clarity and order to streaming libraries.
