Windows Weather App Consumes Nearly 1GB RAM, Slowing Computers

The built-in Windows Weather app can use almost one gigabyte of RAM, significantly impacting computer performance even during simple tasks like checking the forecast. Unlike typical culprits such as heavy games or multiple browser tabs, this seemingly harmless app runs on a Chromium engine, with each component operating as a separate process, similar to opening numerous browser tabs. It also displays animated radar maps, air quality metrics, and frequent ads, all contributing to excessive memory consumption and a cluttered user interface.

The app's design inconsistencies include a differently styled home page and a bright map display that does not switch to dark mode, causing user discomfort. Despite being a paid operating system, Windows includes ads in this app, unlike the cleaner macOS equivalent.

Users can easily uninstall the Weather app through system settings or by deleting it directly, without affecting the weather widget in the taskbar. For weather updates, users can rely on the widget panel or visit weather websites via their regular browsers, obtaining the same information without the heavy resource usage.
