Israeli Police Seek Extended Detention for Additional Suspects in Eldar Dayan Murder Case
Israeli police have requested an extension of detention for four additional suspects in the murder investigation of Eldar Dayan. These four individuals were re-arrested this week after previously being questioned weeks earlier on suspicion of involvement in a fight that preceded Dayan's disappearance. Their arrest raises the total number of detainees in the case to six.
The investigation is being conducted by the Central Unit of the Sharon District Police in central Israel, focusing on the circumstances leading to Dayan's death. Central to the inquiry is a brawl that occurred before Dayan went missing. Police have not disclosed specific charges or the exact connection between the fight and the murder at this stage.
According to police findings, on the morning of Dayan's disappearance, he and two friends, Maxim and Omri, arrived in the Hod Hasharon area where an initial altercation broke out among them. After Omri and Maxim left, they returned to pick up Dayan. Later, the three met with five other youths, and a dispute over a handshake escalated into a physical fight during which Dayan punched one participant. Police noted Dayan's role was minor, and it is suspected that Omri and Maxim attempted to run someone over with a car after the fight.
Witnesses reported that after removing the vehicle's license plate at a gas station, the three ran together toward an open area. However, Omri claimed they split up and ran separately, contradicting witness statements. The investigation also revealed that Maxim threatened to kill Dayan, information provided by others involved in the fight. Police confirmed Dayan was not driving without a license. The search continued until Dayan's body was found near the last known location of the group.
The police continue to investigate all aspects of the case as they seek justice for Eldar Dayan.
