Pakistan Says Iran and U.S. Have Reached a Deal, Signing Set for Friday in Switzerland
Pakistan’s prime minister announced on Monday that Iran and the United States have reached an agreement and are set to sign it in Switzerland on Friday, June 19. The statement was made by Shehbaz Sharif amid ongoing talks between Tehran and Washington.
Sharif said that after intensive negotiations, the sides had agreed to a peace deal and to an immediate and permanent halt to military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon. He said the formal signing ceremony would take place in Switzerland later this week.
In his announcement, Sharif thanked the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran for choosing a diplomatic solution. He also credited Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey for helping broker the agreement, praising Qatar’s leadership and calling the contributions of Saudi Arabia and Turkey significant.
Sharif said mediators would hold a series of meetings during the week ahead of the signing. Those preliminary discussions, he said, would lay the groundwork for technical talks and preparations for the official ceremony.
