Pakistan says US and Iran reached agreement, signing set for Friday in Switzerland
Pakistan's prime minister announced overnight between Sunday and Monday that the United States and Iran have reached an agreement after intensive talks. According to the announcement, both sides have agreed to an immediate and permanent halt to military activity in all arenas, including Lebanon.
The official signing ceremony is scheduled for Friday, June 19, in Switzerland. The prime minister said the deal followed a diplomatic push aimed at ending the conflict and thanked both the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran for their commitment to a negotiated solution.
He also praised Qatar for helping mediate the agreement, and singled out Saudi Arabia and Turkey for what he described as a significant contribution to the process. The announcement said the mediators will hold a series of meetings during the week.
Those preliminary talks are intended to lay the groundwork for technical discussions and for the formal signing ceremony at the end of the week.
