Reports: Amir Sahiti does not want to stay with Maccabi Tel Aviv amid security concerns

German media reported that Amir Sahiti does not want to continue with Maccabi Tel Aviv because of the security situation in Israel. According to a report published Sunday in Germany, the winger has instructed his agents to look for a new club, after he decided a permanent move to Israel is not something he wants to pursue right now.

The report in mopo said that after his loan spell, Sahiti had to decide whether a permanent switch to Israel was an option for him, and that he has now effectively answered that question. It added that before going on vacation, he spoke with club officials and said he first wanted to recharge and clear his head before making a final decision.

Maccabi Tel Aviv could have signed him permanently by early June for 500,000 euros through a purchase option, but did not want to do so without his consent. The report said Sahiti told his agents to find offers from other clubs where he could play in the future, because the situation in Israel is affecting him too strongly on a personal level, even though professionally he felt comfortable.

The article also said the past months have been exhausting for him. Because of the war in the Middle East, the league was halted for six weeks, and during that period he fled with his wife and their two-year-old daughter. If he does not find a new club, he could still return to Hamburg, but the report said his chances of getting a real second opportunity there are considered virtually nonexistent. Hamburg players are scheduled to begin preparations for the new season in early July.
