Grandson Charged with Murdering Grandfather’s Caregiver in Jerusalem Home

Aviaor Zaken, a recently released prisoner, has been indicted for the murder of his grandfather’s caregiver in their Jerusalem home. According to the indictment filed by the Jerusalem District Prosecutor’s Office, Zaken visited his grandparents about three weeks ago for lunch, during which the caregiver, who lived in the house, went to rest in his room. Zaken then entered the room and fatally stabbed the caregiver multiple times in the neck, chest, ear, and nose with a sharp object, intending to kill him. The victim struggled and cried out, but when Zaken’s grandmother asked about the noises, Zaken falsely claimed they were coming from the television. After the victim tried to escape to the living room, he collapsed and died shortly after from severe blood loss.

Following the attack, Zaken lied to his grandparents that the caregiver had committed suicide. While the victim was bleeding, Zaken moved him and the rug to avoid blood stains, changed his shirt, washed his hands, and calmly left the house after kissing his grandparents goodbye. He took the bloodstained shirt and the weapon with him. The indictment charges Zaken with intentional murder. Lawyer Jenny Avni, representing the prosecution, emphasized the tragedy of the caregiver, who had come to Israel to work and support his family, only to be killed violently in the home where he was supposed to feel safe. The investigation was conducted by the Jerusalem District Police Central Unit.
