Father of Fallen Hero to Write Ketubah for Prisoner of War Eli-H Cohen and Fiancée Ziv Avod

Nearly three years after the October 7 attack, prisoner of war survivor Eli-H Cohen and his fiancée Ziv Avod are set to marry on August 19. In a poignant gesture, the couple chose Moshe Shapira, father of the late Enar Shapira, to write their ketubah (Jewish marriage contract). Enar Shapira heroically fought in the deadly shelter in Re'im, shielding many inside from grenades with his own body, including Ziv Avod, who was among those saved.

Ahead of their wedding, Cohen and Avod described the moment as a powerful closure, saying, "Enar was part of the moment that changed our lives, and his father will write our ketubah and be part of the moment where we choose life and love. It moves us deeply." They expressed gratitude to Moshe Shapira for this special connection and the honor of his involvement.

Ziv Avod had campaigned tirelessly for Cohen's release during his 505 days in captivity, sharing videos that garnered millions of views. Upon his return, Cohen publicly thanked Avod in a heartfelt post, praising her determination and courage that helped bring him home. Their wedding follows a touching engagement nearly a year ago that moved many.
