Burgas, Bulgaria Selected to Host Eurovision 2027 After Dara's Win

Burgas, Bulgaria, has been chosen to host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027 following Bulgaria's first-ever victory in the competition. The win came in 2026 in Vienna, where Bulgarian singer Dara triumphed with her song "Bangaranga," defying expectations. Burgas was selected over the capital city, Sofia, to hold the event.

The contest dates have been set: the first semi-final will take place on May 11, coinciding with Israel's Memorial Day, with the broadcast starting as Israel enters Independence Day. The second semi-final is scheduled for May 13, and the grand final will be held on May 15. Given the schedule, Israel is expected to participate in the second semi-final. Israel’s recent Eurovision entry, led by Noam Batan with the song "Michelle," secured second place in the latest contest.

Following Israel's consecutive second-place finishes and widespread protests against its participation, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) introduced new rules. One stipulates that a country facing security threats or geopolitical conflicts will lose the automatic right to host the contest if it wins. This rule appears aimed at Israel and Ukraine. Another new regulation raises the minimum age for contestants from 16 to 18.

Noam Batan expressed gratitude for the unity experienced during the contest and urged continued efforts toward kindness and togetherness beyond the event. The Eurovision 2027 in Burgas marks a historic moment for Bulgaria as it hosts the contest for the first time.
