IDF Warns of Possible Retaliatory Fire Within Hours After Beirut Strikes
The IDF issued an unusual official statement on Sunday evening warning that it is preparing immediately for the possibility of retaliatory fire toward Israeli territory in the coming hours. The heightened alert follows the large-scale Israeli airstrikes carried out in Beirut earlier in the day.
Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir is holding continuous situational assessments with the relevant commanders and branch heads to determine the next steps. The army said all forces are on maximum alert and are ready to respond to a wide range of scenarios.
In its statement, the IDF said it “continues to maintain readiness and alertness for a range of scenarios in defense and offense,” a message it said was also directed at the “axis states and terrorist organizations.” It also issued a firm warning, saying, “The IDF will not tolerate fire at the territory of the State of Israel.”
At this stage, Home Front Command instructions have not changed. The military told the public to remain vigilant, act responsibly, and follow Home Front Command guidance, adding that any changes will be announced if needed.
