Ultra-Orthodox Protest in Bnei Brak Blocks Roads Over Military Recruitment Center

In Bnei Brak, dozens of ultra-Orthodox protesters, including members of the Bohush Hasidim and the Jerusalem Faction, demonstrated against the activities of the "Netivim" center, which encourages young ultra-Orthodox men to integrate into military service and employment. The protest escalated to blocking the entrance to the center and a nearby road near the Osher Ad complex, causing traffic disruptions. Police forces arrived to maintain order during the demonstration.

Protesters chanted the name of Yaanki Farber, who recently passed away and was known for leading ultra-Orthodox recruitment programs. The demonstration reflects ongoing opposition from extremist ultra-Orthodox groups against efforts to recruit yeshiva students and organizations perceived as trying to alter the traditional ultra-Orthodox lifestyle.

This event follows a recent police decision to extend the lease of the Bnei Brak police station building until 2037, at a cost exceeding 90 million shekels, citing the need to ensure a strong police presence in the area. The extension gains significance amid rising tensions between police and extremist ultra-Orthodox factions in Bnei Brak, where repeated protests over recruitment have included roadblocks, clashes with police, and disruptions.

The protests have intensified over the past year, especially after arrests of young ultra-Orthodox men, with the Jerusalem Faction frequently leading demonstrations in the area. The situation highlights the ongoing conflict between state authorities and hardline ultra-Orthodox groups regarding military conscription policies.
