First Reserve Battalion of Hachshmonaim Brigade Completes Initial Drill in Golan Heights

The "Shimon" Battalion, the first reserve battalion of the Hachshmonaim Brigade, recently completed its inaugural battalion-level exercise in the Golan Heights. This milestone marks the official establishment of the battalion and its readiness for operational deployment. During the drill, soldiers practiced various combat scenarios including open terrain fighting, raids, and urban warfare. The battalion is expected to operate in the northern sector in the coming months, particularly throughout the holiday period, undertaking missions as required.

The Shimon Battalion is unique in its composition, including reservists who previously received exemptions from service after completing the Stage B program, alongside ultra-Orthodox soldiers transferred from other IDF units. All recruits underwent comprehensive combat training tailored to accommodate the religious lifestyle at the Hachshmonaim Training Base. The battalion will also integrate graduates from the brigade’s regular service track in the future.

As part of their preparation, soldiers completed specialized courses in explosives, rappelling, drone operations, anti-tank weapons, medical training, and mortars, all adapted to their lifestyle to enable the battalion to function as an organic unit. Since the start of the war, the IDF has formed dozens of new regular and reserve battalions to expand its manpower and alleviate the burden on existing forces.
