IDF's First Hachshmonaim Reserve Battalion Completes Brigade-Level Drill in Golan Heights

The first reserve battalion of the Hachshmonaim Brigade, Battalion Shimon (1200), recently completed its inaugural brigade-level exercise in the Golan Heights, marking the official establishment and operational readiness of the unit. During the drill, the troops practiced open terrain combat, raids, and urban warfare. Battalion Shimon is composed of reservists who previously received service exemptions and Haredi soldiers from other army frameworks. These recruits underwent comprehensive combat training tailored to the Haredi lifestyle at the Hachshmonaim training base. The battalion will also integrate graduates from the brigade's regular service track in the future.

As part of their preparation, soldiers completed specialized courses in explosives, rappelling, drone operations, combat medics, and mortars, enabling the battalion to function as an organic combat unit. This formation is part of a broader IDF effort since the start of the war to expand both regular and reserve units, aiming to reduce the burden on existing servicemembers. In the coming months, including the holiday period, Battalion Shimon is expected to operate in the northern sector, undertaking missions as required by operational needs.
