MK Nissim Vaturi Billboard Sparks Controversy Over Shabbat Installation in Bnei Brak

A large billboard featuring MK Nissim Vaturi, part of his Likud primary campaign, was installed on Jabotinsky Street in Bnei Brak shortly before Shabbat ended, sparking outrage among local residents. Several residents reported to Kikar HaShabbat that the installation work began around 7:30 PM, before Shabbat concluded at approximately 8:10 PM. One resident living directly opposite the billboard said he returned home after the afternoon prayer and witnessed the workers starting the installation, which he found shocking given the timing.

In response, Vaturi's campaign team insisted there was a clear directive to wait until after Shabbat to hang the billboard. They stated that the contract with the advertising company specified installation only after Shabbat. The MK's office emphasized that the advertising company is Shabbat-observant and employs religious workers, and they are currently investigating the claims regarding the timing of the installation.

This incident highlights sensitivities in Bnei Brak, a predominantly ultra-Orthodox city, where public activities during Shabbat are closely scrutinized. The campaign's adherence to Shabbat observance is a critical issue for local voters, and the controversy may impact Vaturi's standing in the upcoming Likud primaries.
