Yalla Galil Festival Canceled in Bu'eine Nujeidat Over Eden Ben Zaken's Participation

The Yalla Galil festival, scheduled to take place in the Druze town of Bu'eine Nujeidat, was canceled due to the participation of Israeli singer Eden Ben Zaken. The local council head, Nazih Dabur, explained that the cancellation was made to prevent potential violence after threats from neighboring Muslim villages to disrupt the event. According to Dabur, the decision was driven by concerns over public safety and the inability to guarantee adequate security for attendees.

Dabur emphasized that the power lies not in one side imposing its will on another but in preventing bloodshed and ensuring fear does not dictate future community life. He noted that local sheikhs opposed Ben Zaken's performance, fearing it would attract Muslims from nearby villages, which they wanted to avoid. Threats reportedly included road blockades and Molotov cocktail attacks, with local youth being mobilized against the festival.

Besides Eden Ben Zaken, the band "The Project of Revivo" was also scheduled to perform. The festival's official website announced the postponement of the performances. Dabur addressed the community, stressing respect for differing opinions and religious sensitivities, but underscored that threats and coercion cannot be accepted as means of decision-making. He assured that the festival would be rescheduled under conditions that ensure public safety and uphold the rights of all residents.

No official response has been received from Eden Ben Zaken regarding the cancellation. The incident highlights ongoing tensions between different communities in the region and the challenges of organizing cultural events amid such sensitivities.
