Mansour Abbas and Yoav Segalovitz Advance Talks Ahead of Ra'am Primaries

Mansour Abbas, leader of the Ra'am party, and Yoav Segalovitz, former Knesset member from Yesh Atid, are set to meet for the first time since Segalovitz's resignation from the Knesset. The meeting, scheduled for August 11, aims to close gaps between the two ahead of the Ra'am primaries on August 22. Negotiations focus on the terms of Segalovitz's integration with Ra'am, including political and procedural conditions.

Abbas demands a technical alliance where Segalovitz would not be considered a formal party member and insists that Ra'am's internal constitution and leadership structure remain unchanged. Conversely, Segalovitz seeks freedom to vote independently on religion and state issues, proposes a civil service framework for the Arab community, and wants to formalize past declarations by Abbas affirming Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people.

A senior Ra'am official confirmed ongoing talks but emphasized that nothing is finalized yet, highlighting the need for formal institutional approval to ensure the alliance benefits both sides without altering their core identities. Within Ra'am, efforts continue to find common ground and secure official endorsement for the partnership.

Public opinion on Segalovitz's potential role as a decisive "61st vote" for the opposition bloc is mixed. A recent poll showed 44% of the general public doubt the bloc can rely on him, while 28% believe they can. Among opposition voters, 45% support relying on Segalovitz, with 27% opposed.

The upcoming meeting is critical for finalizing the alliance terms and could influence the political landscape ahead of the primaries and future coalition formations.
