Yoav Segalovich Nears Joining Ra'am Ahead of Party Primaries
Israeli Knesset member Yoav Segalovich is on track to join the Ra'am party, with the party's primaries scheduled for Sunday. Following the primaries, Ra'am's central committee is expected to vote on granting Segalovich the second spot on the party's list, a position reserved for party leadership.
Segalovich and Ra'am chairman Mansour Abbas have reached several understandings ahead of this move, including advancing civil service within the Arab community and granting Segalovich freedom to vote independently on various issues. Additionally, Segalovich is expected to be Ra'am's candidate for National Security Minister if the party joins the next government.
Just two days ago, Abbas met with Segalovich and discussed the possibility of his joining Ra'am's list for the upcoming Knesset elections in a "positive and good-spirited" manner. They agreed to continue direct talks to finalize the arrangement. About ten days prior, a joint statement confirmed their ongoing discussions on this potential collaboration.
The right-wing Otzma Yehudit party quickly condemned the potential alliance, accusing it of being a "sellout plan" against the Jewish state in cooperation with the left. They claimed Mansour Abbas aims to control the National Security Ministry through Segalovich to reverse policies such as demolitions in the Negev and to turn certain ministries into Islamic territories. They also criticized former IDF Chief Gadi Eisenkot and Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman as partners in this alleged scheme.
