Netanyahu Launches National AI Program to Secure Israel’s Global Leadership

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Erez Eskal, head of the National AI Staff, officially launched Israel’s National Artificial Intelligence Program on March 10, 2025. The event, attended by representatives from various government ministries, the Bank of Israel, and public bodies, marked the transition from planning to operational implementation of the program. The initiative expands upon Government Decision 4255 and aims to position Israel as a global AI leader while promoting economic and public prosperity.

Netanyahu emphasized the urgency of the moment, describing AI as a transformative technology and warning that Israel faces a "very short window of opportunity" to lead rather than fall behind. The program outlines Israel’s unique strengths, necessary enabling factors, and critical steps to ensure resilience and continuity in AI development.

Key components of the plan include advancing cyber capabilities, physical AI applications, and AI solutions for real-life challenges. It also calls for investment in advanced computing infrastructure, the establishment of a national quantum computer, and significant human capital development. Eskal described the program as "very ambitious," designed to enhance national resilience and improve citizen services.

The conference featured officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, Defense Ministry, Finance Ministry, Bank of Israel, Health Ministry, Education Ministry, Justice Ministry, Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Innovation Authority, Civil Service Commission, and other public entities. This broad participation underscores the government’s commitment to integrating AI across sectors to strengthen Israel’s economy and society.
