Russian-Israeli Historian Disappears After Landing in Israel, Activists Say
Activists in Russia report that Artyom Kirpichyonok, a Russian historian with Israeli citizenship, disappeared last week after arriving in Israel. According to social media posts, Kirpichyonok landed at Ben Gurion Airport on a flight from Yerevan, Armenia, to attend an event he was invited to, but he has not been heard from since his arrival. Friends and activists are appealing for any information regarding his whereabouts.
Kirpichyonok, 51, was born in Saint Petersburg and immigrated to Israel in the 1990s. He graduated from the Hebrew University and lived in Russia again for about 15 years after his aliyah. He was known for his highly critical stance against the State of Israel and Zionism, frequently writing against them.
The Russian Embassy in Israel has reportedly contacted Israeli authorities about Kirpichyonok’s alleged disappearance but has not yet received a response, according to Russian Telegram channels.
