Russia Asks UN for Explanation on Historian's Arrest by Shin Bet

Russia's Presidential Council for Human Rights (HCR) has appealed to the United Nations regarding the detention of Russian historian Artyom Kirpichenok, who reportedly disappeared in Israel earlier this month. According to the HCR's appeal, Kirpichenok was arrested at Ben Gurion Airport by the Shin Bet shortly after arriving. The council urged the UN to contact Israeli authorities to demand an explanation for his arrest and to ensure he receives immediate access to legal counsel and qualified medical care.

Details emerging from Russia indicate that Kirpichenok landed at Ben Gurion Airport on August 2nd, arriving on a flight from Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. All attempts by his associates to contact him have so far been unsuccessful.
