Reuters: Iran Says Draft U.S. Deal Bars Nuclear Weapons, Calls for Enriched Uranium to Be Diluted
A senior Iranian official told Reuters that a draft agreement with the United States includes a commitment by Tehran not to develop or obtain nuclear weapons by any other means. The same draft, according to the official, would require Iran to dilute the enriched uranium it already possesses on Iranian soil, with U.S. approval.
The official said the mechanism for carrying out the uranium dilution has not yet been decided. He also claimed that Washington has agreed to unfreeze $25 billion in Iranian assets that have been frozen, including through direct money transfers.
The report did not say when the draft was finalized or whether either side has formally approved it, only that negotiations are still reflected in the wording described by the Iranian source.
