Rami Levy Offers Cheapest Weekly Grocery Basket Compared to Victory Chain

As summer progresses and children spend more time at home, grocery shopping frequency increases, accelerating fridge and pantry depletion. A recent price comparison conducted on Monday via the Prices website examined a standard grocery basket including dairy, fruits, vegetables, and dry goods across various Israeli supermarket chains. The study found that Rami Levy offers the lowest total basket price at 444.90 shekels, while Victory charges the highest at 540.81 shekels, marking a significant price gap of 95.91 shekels or about 21.6%.

Notable price differences were observed in specific products. For example, a 750-gram loaf of 100% whole wheat bread with rye from Angel Bakery costs 12.90 shekels at Rami Levy and Yochananof, but 16.50 shekels at Victory, a 27.9% difference. Similarly, Osem's 500-gram penne rigate pasta sells for 4.90 shekels at Yochananof and Rami Levy, compared to 6.90 shekels at Victory and Mahsanei Hashuk, representing a 40.8% price gap.

The comparison highlights that even everyday products bought routinely can vary significantly in price between supermarket chains. Small price differences per item accumulate quickly across a full basket, making it worthwhile for consumers to compare prices before shopping, especially during periods of increased purchase frequency like summer holidays. The findings suggest that relying on a habitual supermarket may not always be the most cost-effective choice.
