Bus Driver Smashes Window After Dispute With Passenger on Ashdod to Modi'in Illit Route

An unusual incident occurred on bus line 881 operated by Kavim, traveling from Ashdod to Modi'in Illit on Thursday. A dispute between the driver and a passenger escalated when the passenger, a father traveling with his children, pressed the stop button to allow his wife to board at the next stop. The driver allegedly ignored the stop request and continued driving, prompting the passenger to confront him. The argument intensified rapidly, and the driver lost control, smashing the bus window in front of shocked passengers.

Video footage from inside the bus shows panicked passengers standing up, with children crying loudly due to the frightening noise and event. After the incident, the driver pulled the bus over, and a replacement driver was brought in to continue the journey. Passengers criticized the driver's behavior, emphasizing that such conduct is unacceptable for public transport staff and called for accountability to prevent future occurrences.

The Ministry of Transport and the National Authority for Public Transportation condemned the violent incident, stating that they take any threat to passenger safety seriously. Following the report, Ministry Director-General Moshe Ben Zaken instructed immediate investigation and disciplinary action as needed. Police arrived at the scene and opened an investigation. Kavim suspended the driver pending the outcome of the inquiry and was required to submit a detailed report on the incident and disciplinary measures. The authorities pledged to closely monitor the case to ensure passenger and public safety on public transportation.
