Israeli Ex-Soldier Steals Wheel from Another Car After Getting Flat Tire in Beit She'an

An ex-soldier from the Jerusalem area, stranded with a flat tire near the Sea of Galilee, resorted to stealing a wheel from another vehicle in Beit She'an to continue his journey home. According to police, the young man dismantled a wheel from a Honda Civic matching his car, installed it on his vehicle, and left the original car on a pile of stones. Surveillance footage captured him removing the wheel and transferring it to his car.

Senior Sergeant Major Kfir Avitan, a senior forensic investigator with the Beit She'an police, explained that on July 19, a complaint was filed about a stolen wheel. A local female soldier discovered her car resting on blocks after the theft. Avitan detailed the investigation process, which involved reviewing security cameras that recorded the suspect checking multiple Honda vehicles before selecting the matching one.

Two days after the theft, police identified and declared the suspect wanted, issuing search warrants. He was apprehended during a random checkpoint while driving to Jerusalem. During interrogation, the suspect admitted he had been with friends at the Sea of Galilee and, lacking funds to repair his flat tire, stole the wheel from the matching Honda. He expressed remorse for his actions. The stolen wheel was recovered and returned to Beit She'an police.

The case will be forwarded to the Emek District prosecution for indictment. The victim, who spent a week without her car and had to buy new wheels costing 3,000 shekels, praised the police work and demanded appropriate punishment for the thief. She described the incident as a nightmare and expressed shock that such behavior occurred in Beit She'an.

The police emphasized their commitment to addressing even seemingly minor offenses and thanked the public for cooperation in the investigation.
