Israeli Government to Approve Urgent Transfer of 1 Billion Shekels for Classified Defense Procurement

The Israeli government is set to approve the transfer of one billion shekels to the Ministry of Defense for urgent and classified defense procurement. This decision follows approval by the Defense Acquisition Ministers' Committee last Friday and addresses an immediate operational need. The funds will not be new budget additions but reallocated from existing 2026 budgets. Specifically, 850 million shekels will be redirected from the Ministry of Economy and Industry's technology investment budget, originally intended to promote investments and employment in the tech sector. An additional 150 million shekels will come from previously reserved but unallocated government budgets for this year.

A legal opinion attached to the proposal stresses that without this budget approval, the urgent procurement cannot proceed. Due to the classified nature of the procurement, the operational reasons for the approval are not publicly disclosed. The transfer highlights a reprioritization within the 2026 state budget to meet pressing defense requirements.
