Israeli Tax Authority Arrests Suspect in Luxury Hotel Suite for Tax Fraud

Israeli Tax Authority investigators arrested Dudu Ohana, a resident of Rehovot, on Thursday on suspicion of managing shell companies, distributing and offsetting fake invoices, and committing tax offenses. Ohana was apprehended in a luxury hotel suite in Hadera after evading investigators for an extended period. The arrest followed a technological tracking operation and surveillance conducted by the Tax Authority's Customs and VAT Investigations Unit in Beersheba, in cooperation with the Tax Authority's Intelligence Unit and Hadera police officers.

Investigators believe Ohana continued to operate the shell companies and manage proxies from the hotel suite. A few weeks prior to the arrest, tax investigators searched Ohana's home, where his son, Sharaf, was caught burning documents and stamps belonging to his father and attempting to destroy additional evidence using a garden hose. The son was detained and later released under restrictive conditions.

During the hotel room search, authorities seized computers, mobile phones, and lawyers' stamps allegedly used to forge documents, along with other evidence. The Beersheba Magistrate's Court extended Ohana's detention until Thursday, August 13, 2026. The investigation is ongoing.
