Israeli Tax Authority Arrests Man Hiding in Hotel Suite Over Fake Invoice Scheme

Last weekend, Israeli Tax Authority investigators arrested Dudu Ohana, a resident of Rehovot, on suspicion of operating shell companies to distribute and deduct fake invoices, committing serious tax offenses. Ohana had evaded investigation for an extended period before his arrest. The arrest was carried out by the Customs and VAT Investigations Unit in Beersheba, in cooperation with the Tax Authority's intelligence unit and Haifa police officers. Ohana reportedly rented a hotel suite in Hadera, far from his home in central Israel, from where he continued managing the shell companies and their operatives.

The investigation revealed that Ohana involved his son in attempts to obstruct the inquiry. Weeks earlier, tax investigators searching Ohana's home found that his son had burned documents and company seals on a barbecue and used a garden hose to destroy additional evidence. The son was arrested and later released under restrictive conditions. Using advanced technological means, investigators tracked Ohana's location and arrested him in his hotel room. The search of the suite uncovered computers, mobile phones, lawyers' seals allegedly used to forge documents, and other evidence.

The Beersheba Magistrate's Court extended Ohana's detention until Thursday, August 13, 2026. The investigation is ongoing.
