Serbia and Israel to Launch Joint Drone Manufacturing Plant in Europe This September

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić announced that Serbia will establish a joint drone manufacturing facility with Israel, with the inauguration scheduled between September 15 and 20. Despite Ukraine's own production capabilities, Serbia chose to collaborate specifically with Israel on this project. This development follows a significant defense contract signed last August between Israeli defense company Elbit Systems and Serbia, reportedly worth $1.63 billion. The five-year agreement includes the supply of long-range precision artillery rocket systems, a wide range of unmanned aerial combat and intelligence systems, including personal drones, as well as advanced intelligence capabilities such as COMINT, SIGINT, and electronic warfare systems.

Additionally, Elbit will provide electro-optical systems, night vision equipment, upgrades for combat vehicles, and comprehensive battlefield digitization and communication solutions based on the latest software and advanced communication hardware. This deal is among the largest in recent years, second only to Israel Aerospace Industries' $3.5 billion sale of the Arrow 3 missile defense system to Germany in 2023. Other notable recent transactions include the Barak 8 missile systems sold to India and Greece, and the Spyder air defense system sold to Romania.

These agreements highlight Israel's expanding defense exports to Europe and its strategic partnerships in the region. The Serbia-Israel drone plant represents a significant step in European defense manufacturing collaboration, with the official launch expected in mid-September.
