Maccabi Haifa continued their recovery from a difficult start to the season by securing a 1-0 victory against Bnei Sakhnin in the Toto Cup group stage on August 8, 2026. Silva Cani scored the only goal in the 54th minute, helping Haifa register their second consecutive win after earlier disappointing losses to Hapoel Haifa and Kiryat Shmona. Despite the win, Maccabi Haifa's performance remained lackluster and unconvincing, with the team still appearing tired and not fully cohesive. However, against the weakest team in the Toto Cup, this was enough to earn the three points.
The victory brings Maccabi Haifa's Toto Cup group stage record to two wins and two losses, a more acceptable balance that may ease some of the early-season pressure on the team and coaching staff. Notably, Bronninio once again impressed during the match, and Manuel Benson made his first appearance since May. The club has invested in several new players this season, aiming to return to the top of Israeli football, but the group stage results indicate the path will be challenging.
The match took place at the end of the Toto Cup group stage, and while the win is encouraging, Maccabi Haifa still needs to improve their overall play to meet their ambitions for the 2026/27 season.
