Democrats Chair Yair Golan Declines to Reserve Knesset Spot for Hostage's Mother Inbal Tsangocker

Yair Golan, chairman of the Israeli Democratic Party, informed Inbal Tsangocker, mother of former captive Matan Tsangocker, that he will not use his party's reserved Knesset list slots for her candidacy in the upcoming elections. This decision ends weeks of speculation about her potential political entry through the opposition party.

Inbal Tsangocker has been a prominent figure in the families of hostages' protest movement, advocating strongly for the return of her son Matan, who was kidnapped from their home in Kibbutz Nir Oz alongside Ilana Grichvesky. After Grichvesky's release in an earlier prisoner exchange, Tsangocker sharply criticized the Israeli leadership for allegedly abandoning her son.

Despite ongoing talks with the Democrats and the party's ability to reserve a spot for her at either second or tenth place on the list, Golan chose not to exercise this option. Tsangocker had previously expressed willingness to serve the citizens of Israel and noted that even the Likud party had approached her. Her public activism made her a natural candidate for political involvement, but with Golan's announcement, her political candidacy via the Democrats is now off the table.
