IDF Holds Funeral for Reserve Major Tamir Vaknin Killed in South Lebanon Clash
The Israel Defense Forces held the funeral on Thursday for Reserve Major Tamir Vaknin, 33, from Eilat, who was killed in combat in southern Lebanon alongside Reserve Lieutenant Colonel Harel Birenstock. The two soldiers died during a mission to search for new sites in the area that had not yet been examined. During the search, their unit entered a booby-trapped house where an explosive device detonated, causing part of the structure to collapse on them.
Rescue forces quickly provided aid and evacuated Birenstock, Vaknin, and four other soldiers who were seriously injured. Following the incident, the Israeli Air Force, guided by the Northern Command's fire coordination and the 91st Division's artillery unit, struck targets in the area. The funeral was attended by many who came to support the families of the fallen soldiers.
