IDF Officers Tamir Vaknin and Harel Birnstok Killed in Lebanon Explosion

Lieutenant Colonel Tamir Vaknin and Major Harel Birnstok were killed on August 5 in Lebanon after a roadside bomb exploded, injuring four other soldiers. The incident occurred amid ongoing tensions along the Israel-Lebanon border, with the IDF blaming Hezbollah for violating the ceasefire. Tamir Vaknin's brother, Yoav, spoke in an interview recalling his last conversation with Tamir the evening before the explosion. He described Tamir as a dedicated soldier who valued serving the country and completing reserve duty. Yoav said Tamir was the heart of his unit, known for his humor and generosity, caring deeply for family and comrades alike. Tamir had previously served seven months in Gaza and had been deployed in Syria and Lebanon.

The funeral for Lieutenant Colonel Vaknin is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Eilat. Yoav emphasized the importance of remembering Tamir as a selfless person who left a lasting legacy. The IDF continues to monitor the situation closely, warning of potential further hostilities in the region.
