Jerusalem Police Arrest Taxi Driver Who Drove 20 Years Without License

Police in Jerusalem recently arrested a 42-year-old taxi driver from Ma'ale Adumim who had been driving without a license for 20 years. Despite being caught eight times previously for driving without a license, the driver continued to operate his taxi and pick up passengers, including in Jerusalem. During the latest arrest, officers requested his license, and he pretended to search through documents to buy time. Police records confirmed he never obtained a driving license, even though he has owned a vehicle since 2007.

The driver was stopped while leaving the Ammunition Hill area in his taxi. To prevent him from continuing to drive illegally, authorities decided to file formal charges and requested his detention until the legal proceedings conclude. Eli Matlov, commander of the Central Unit of the Jerusalem Traffic Police, described the case as unusual and emphasized the repeated offenses over the years. The police are taking stronger measures this time to ensure public safety and prevent further risks to passengers unaware of the driver's lack of credentials.
