20-Year-Old From Shuafat Caught After Third Unlicensed Driving Escape Attempt in Jerusalem

A 20-year-old man from the Shuafat refugee camp, who has never obtained a driver's license, was arrested after a police chase in the Beit Hanina neighborhood of Jerusalem on August 12, 2026. The suspect, who was riding a scooter with a passenger, ignored police orders to stop during a traffic enforcement operation by the Jerusalem traffic unit. He fled at high speed, endangering himself, his passenger, and other road users. During the pursuit, the scooter slipped, and both riders abandoned it and ran on foot. The police officer continued the chase on foot and successfully apprehended the suspect. Meanwhile, others attempted to remove the scooter from the scene, but it was located and seized following searches and guidance from the Jerusalem district control center. Police confirmed this was the third time the suspect was caught driving without a license. He was detained, interrogated, and later summoned for a court hearing.
