A 14.5-year-old ultra-Orthodox boy was detained for questioning in Jerusalem after police caught him riding an electric scooter in a way that endangered lives on city streets. According to police, he rode without a helmet and without the license plate required by law, while committing multiple serious traffic violations, including crossing intersections and red lights, driving over a solid lane divider, and putting pedestrians at real risk as they crossed in a crosswalk.
Police said an officer on a motorcycle signaled the teen to stop, but he ignored the instructions and tried to flee. Even after he was intercepted, he continued to resist actively, leaving officers no choice but to arrest him and take him to a station for identification.
At the station, police determined that he was a minor below the legal riding age and did not have a permit as required. After his case was processed, he was summoned for a rapid hearing on charges of driving through a red light under aggravated circumstances, and was released to his home.
