Israel’s Largest Public Hospital to Be Built in Beersheba with Multi-Billion Shekel Investment
Israel is set to establish its largest public hospital, the Shimon Peres Negev Medical Center, in Beersheba’s northeast, near the high-tech park and Ben-Gurion University. The project, estimated to cost billions of shekels, will cover approximately 700,000 square meters and include around 2,100 hospital beds. The first phase, launching soon, involves constructing about 200,000 square meters, two main buildings, and extensive transportation infrastructure, with construction expected to begin around 2028 and last about eight years.
The medical campus will be strategically located in Beersheba’s innovation district to create a seamless scientific and infrastructural connection with the nearby advanced industries park and university. Phase one will add 600 beds and include an emergency medicine building, an ambulatory care building, logistical support facilities, and an independent energy center. To ensure accessibility, the plan includes two new interchanges, a heavy rail station, and a dedicated light rail line linking the campus to Beersheba’s main transport arteries.
The project is promoted by Pers Negev, a joint venture of the Leumit and Meuhedet health funds, alongside Sheba Negev Medical Center, government bodies, and Beersheba municipality. Engineering and project management firms Margolin Engineering and Consulting and Foran Sarim were selected to oversee planning, coordination, and supervision. Both companies bring extensive experience managing complex healthcare and infrastructure projects across Israel.
The initiative is expected to create approximately 3,000 new jobs during the first phase’s construction and operation. Margolin’s co-CEO Yossi Valas expressed pride in contributing to a national project that will deliver world-class medical services to southern residents. Foran Sarim’s co-CEO Ami Foran highlighted the hospital as a realization of a national vision to reshape public healthcare in Israel, emphasizing innovation, quality, and patient experience. The partnership between the two firms is seen as a key factor in the project’s anticipated success and its contribution to regional development and healthcare infrastructure enhancement in the Negev.
