Israel Launches First Dedicated Alzheimer’s and Dementia Medical Center in Beersheba

In response to the rising number of Alzheimer’s and dementia patients in Israel, a new specialized medical center is being established in Beersheba with an investment of approximately 250 million shekels. The center, expected to open in 2030, will feature around 280 hospital beds across eight departments, a day center, specialist clinics, a family support hotline, and a multidisciplinary treatment system. It aims to provide comprehensive care close to home for residents of southern Israel and support for their families.

Currently, about 150,000 people in Israel live with Alzheimer’s and dementia, with numbers projected to increase significantly due to population aging. The center will employ hundreds of medical, nursing, rehabilitation, and paramedical professionals, mostly from the Negev region.

The project is a collaboration between the Israeli Alzheimer’s Medical Center, the Ministry of Health, and the Beersheba Municipality. The Ministry of Health has allocated 37.8 million shekels in funding, while the municipality has provided the land on Yehuda Halevi Street as part of expanding healthcare services in the south. Nitai Eliash, CEO of the Israeli Alzheimer’s Medical Center, described the initiative as a transition from vision to reality that will transform care for thousands of families in southern Israel.

Beersheba Mayor Rubik Danilovich emphasized the urgent need to prepare for the growing patient population to ensure access to advanced medical care, treatment, and research, enabling dignified aging near patients’ homes.
