Tal Meir Condemns Yair Golan's Remarks on Haredi IDF Conscription as Nazi-Like

Tal Meir sharply criticized Yair Golan, chairman of the Democratic Party, for his comments about the Haredi community's conscription into the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Speaking on Channel 14's "Israel This Morning," Meir condemned Golan's description of parts of the Haredi population as "uneducated, unmotivated, and physically incapable." She called his language "horrifying" and compared it to the derogatory rhetoric used against Jews in Nazi Germany regarding their physical and intellectual abilities.

Golan had previously stated that while he supports drafting Haredim, it must be done gradually and with proper preparation, as immediate mass conscription is impractical. He emphasized the need for tailored service tracks and suggested integrating Haredim into other public service roles such as emergency medical services, firefighting, police, prison service, and hospitals.

Meir accused Golan of being "almost auto-antisemitic" and expressed alarm at his harsh characterization of a significant sector of Israeli society. Her remarks are expected to intensify the ongoing political debate over the contentious draft law and the integration of the Haredi community into military or civilian service frameworks.
