Young Man Shot Dead in Gilead Regional Council Amid Ongoing Blood Feuds
Imaan Jaramana, a 20-year-old man, was fatally shot early Thursday morning in the village of Muqeibila within the Gilead Regional Council. Emergency services received a report around 6 a.m. of a shooting victim; paramedics found Jaramana unconscious, without pulse or breathing, suffering from severe gunshot wounds. Despite advanced medical efforts and prolonged resuscitation, he was pronounced dead at the hospital. Police launched an immediate investigation and began searching for suspects.
This killing follows the murder of Ziad Bashara, 57, in Tayibe the previous evening, believed to be part of a blood feud. Bashara’s wife, social activist Suzan Abd al-Qader Bashara, was herself shot dead in Tira about a year and three months ago. Reports indicate that Bashara was lured to a parking lot near a school and shot at close range while sitting in a car with his second wife and child.
Until the recent murder of Amar al-Kara’an from Kseifa last Friday, the Arab community had experienced a rare 20-day period without any criminally motivated killings, a first in four years. Law enforcement attributes this temporary decline to extensive police deployment and internal reconciliation efforts. Community sources highlight recent peace agreements, truces, and reconciliations between feuding families, such as those between the Abu Ghanem and Abu Zaid families in Lod and Ramla, and between the Shafiq and Mardi families in Tira, as key factors reducing violence. However, some conflicts continue under temporary ceasefires known as "hudna."
