Maccabi Haifa Debates New Signings Ahead of Season Opener

Maccabi Haifa is preparing for their upcoming match against Bnei Sakhnin on Saturday, which will serve mainly as a trial for coach Barak Bachar and his squad ahead of the league start. The club has not finalized its transfer plans, continuing negotiations with goalkeeper Omer Katz, who is eager to join the team. Katz's potential signing was first reported by Sport 5. Another goalkeeper, Omer Nir'on from Maccabi Netanya, is also being considered, but high demands from his current club and his expected return to fitness in about a month reduce the chances of a deal.

In addition to the goalkeeper position, Haifa is contemplating adding another foreign player. However, to make room for a new foreign signing, the club must release some of its current foreign players. The roster currently includes Yila Bataie, Nigel Lonwijk, Tsunami, Cedric Don, Bruninho, Manuel Benson, and Andrea Novakovic, all of whom appear to have secured spots. The club is working on solutions regarding Pedro and Peter Agba to free up space. The main dilemma is whether to sign an attacking or defensive player as the additional foreign recruit.
