Netanyahu Defends Itamar Ben Gvir's Appointment to Supreme Court Against Dismissal Petitions

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu submitted a response to the Supreme Court regarding petitions seeking to remove Itamar Ben Gvir from his position as National Security Minister. Netanyahu affirmed that Ben Gvir's appointment was lawful and that there is no legal or administrative basis to terminate his tenure. The response emphasized that although procedural regulations governing the minister's interaction with the police have not yet been finalized, this does not justify his dismissal. Netanyahu also stated that Ben Gvir respects the principle of police independence and that disputes over his conduct do not constitute grounds for disqualification.

The Prime Minister criticized the Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara's position, describing her legal opinion as exaggerated and based on unrelated incidents that do not provide a legal basis for removing the minister. Ben Gvir responded by praising Netanyahu's clear stance against what he called the "criminal Attorney General" and asserted that civil service officials have no authority to dismiss ministers. He vowed that after the elections, they will remove the so-called "deep state" officials themselves.
