Netanyahu Defends Itamar Ben-Gvir, Sees No Grounds for Dismissal Amid Police Oversight Dispute

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has informed Israel's Supreme Court that he does not find any justification to dismiss Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, despite failed negotiations to establish guidelines limiting the minister's involvement in police affairs. The discussions aimed to create a 'principles framework' to define the boundaries of ministerial authority over the police, following a petition brought before the court.

The Supreme Court judges directed the government's legal advisor, representatives of the Prime Minister, and Minister Ben-Gvir to attempt reaching an agreement on the draft regulations to avoid a judicial ruling on this critical matter. However, these efforts did not succeed.

In response, Ben-Gvir welcomed Netanyahu's stance and criticized the civil service, stating, "After the elections, we will remove the deep state officials." This exchange highlights ongoing tensions between the minister's office and the police establishment. The issue remains unresolved as the court awaits further developments.
