Netanyahu and Smotrich Accept Supreme Court Ruling to Cancel Yehuda Eliyahu's Appointment

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, along with Ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Haim Katz, informed the Israeli Supreme Court on Tuesday that they accept the judges' recommendation to cancel the appointment of Yehuda Eliyahu as Director General of the Israel Land Authority. The court had issued its decision two days earlier, ordering the annulment of Eliyahu's appointment and mandating that the selection committee be reconstituted to reconsider the appointment process.

The Supreme Court instructed the parties involved to respond to this proposal within 48 hours. According to the judges' recommendation, the original selection committee that appointed Eliyahu will resume its work, but two of its five members will be replaced due to concerns over conflicts of interest. The members to be replaced are Meirav Prozner, Head of the Budget Department at the Ministry of Finance, and Professor Idith Sulberg.

This development follows petitions filed against Eliyahu's appointment, which the court found problematic. The reconstitution of the committee aims to ensure a fair and impartial selection process. Commenting on the matter, Arel Segal remarked, "It is sad, age has done its part," reflecting on the broader implications of the decision.
