Israeli Government Agrees to Reopen Selection Committee for Yehuda Eliyahu's Appointment
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, and Housing Minister Haim Katz informed the Israeli Supreme Court on Tuesday that they accept the court's proposal regarding the appointment process of Yehuda Eliyahu as Director of the Israel Land Authority. The selection committee will reconvene with a partially new composition, replacing two members: the Finance Ministry representative Hanan Prozner and public representative Edit Solberg will be substituted by new members. The reconstituted committee will re-interview the top three candidates and decide based on their professional judgment. The committee may also choose to re-interview other candidates from the original pool of 14 but is not obligated to do so.
Until a permanent director is appointed, the Prime Minister, Finance Minister, and Housing Minister will appoint an acting director in accordance with the Civil Service Law. The statement also noted that these officials may appoint Yehuda Eliyahu as acting director. Eliyahu will continue serving in his current role until the appointment process is complete. All parties emphasized their commitment to swiftly finalize the appointment, given the critical importance of filling the position.
