Israeli Supreme Court Orders Review of Yehuda Eliyahu's Appointment as Israel Lands Authority Director
The Israeli Supreme Court (Bagatz) held a live hearing on Sunday for the second time regarding petitions against the appointment of Yehuda Eliyahu as director of the Israel Lands Authority (Rami). This followed the issuance of a conditional order requiring the state to justify why Eliyahu's appointment should not be canceled. After the hearing, the judges recommended annulling Eliyahu's appointment and returning the decision to the selection committee. The committee is to re-interview the three final candidates, including Eliyahu, after replacing two of its members. The court set a 48-hour deadline for the parties to respond to the ruling. Justice Yael Wilner remarked that the appointment decision contained numerous flaws, some of which were unacceptable to overlook.
